Got some time to get the Donny new work. Sexy homoerotic sculpted abs. Just like the cool action figures we give to kids. Yeah for metal and welding. I love the smell of burning metal.
Donny got some work. It has been sometime since Donny has done antthing but get rolled around the office. Moved from one spot to the other out of the way of daily work. He has been a struggle in my head about if I make the proporations correct. Hesitant because of a lack of belief in my ability to make a human figure look like I see it and how I want Donny to appear. He is my first try at anything this large or complex. I am self taught , I have self doubt. I needed to weld ,I needed to create. Im happy with the progress. I like the shape. One more hurdle cleared. I got an email from the El Paseo art director for the sculpture entry of 2015/16. That would be a great start for Donny 2 years in the desert would be great for his Patina.
After many hours of work, and days of time without an opportunity to weld , I finally completed a fun one. Bike parts , door parts , rebar ,and a variable assortment of construction debris. I am really happy with the final product. I will be putting this one at Avantgarden for the first Saturday Artwalk on January the 4 come see. 207 north Broadway santa ana in the basement galleries.
After many moons and waiting I finally had a chance to finish the glass and metal creation. The bike parts and stainless steel were wonderful finds and will add to the change in the patina, the copper will green but the stainless won’t change, everything else will rust over time. I think I will place it in the gallery this month for the first Saturday Artwalk. I’m reall happy with how it all came together.
Donny has been given new growth. Had the first moment in a a few weeks to do art. Donny called to me this morning and I had to give him some shape. Ribs and sternum, external stomach shape, collarbone and scapula. Internal structure taking shape and getting ready for skin. Great day for welding, lovely fall day.
So happy to get a chance to work on a little art today. I have started a project which is a take off from the wooden flower series I did a few years ago. Tre magnifique was the culmination of the free standing wood flower. So for this piece it will be a metal and glass version, I have made the glass blooms already. Im really excited about this piece the glass is beautiful and I can’t wait to get them set in front of the stainless steel.
